Personality & Traits
| General Overview | James Maddox is, at first glance, an ordinary, reserved man. Off-duty, he keeps to himself and prefers a quiet, structured life. On the streets of Detroit, however, he becomes far more alert and controlled—constantly assessing threats and anticipating danger. A veteran of the Petrol Wars, James was trained under the joint U.S. Army/CIA Spectre Program, where he was conditioned to operate as a lethal asset. That training still lingers, making it difficult at times for him to shift from “eliminate” to “disable” in high-stress situations. He strongly values teamwork and cohesion, expecting his unit to operate with the same discipline and coordination as his former Spectre squad. Outside of work, he maintains a strict fitness routine, but his true passion lies in restoring and modifying cars in his home garage. |

| Personal History | James Maddox was born on July 17, 1995, in San Antonio, Texas, to Thomas and Sarah Maddox. Raised in a military household, James and his siblings grew up under strict discipline. His father, a veteran of the First Corporate War, later served as an officer at Fort Sam Houston. From a young age, James was taught the importance of responsibility, integrity, and doing what was right—values that continue to guide him. He bonded closely with his father through shared activities like working on cars, hunting, and attending sporting events. In high school, James excelled in football, eventually becoming a standout linebacker. His performance earned him a scholarship to the University of Texas, where he began studying law while continuing his athletic career. He quickly gained national recognition, earning the nickname “Mad Dog” Maddox. In 2016, just before his sophomore year, a severe shoulder dislocation ended his football career. With his scholarship revoked—largely due to pressure from corporate donors—James was forced to leave the university. With his future uncertain, he chose to enlist in the U.S. Army later that year. Demonstrating exceptional physical and mental resilience, he qualified for the Spectre Program, a joint CIA/Army black-operations unit. The training was brutal, but he endured. During deployments in South America and the Middle East throughout the Petrol Wars, James saw intense combat. It was during one of these operations that he lost his left arm. After returning to the United States, he underwent cybernetic augmentation and rehabilitation. He was honorably discharged in 2021. At his sister’s urging, James relocated to Detroit. In 2023, he entered the Detroit Police Academy and graduated with strong marks, earning assignment to the Northeast Precinct. There, he partnered with veteran officer Paul Kersey, who became both a mentor and father figure. After four years, Kersey retired, and James was transferred to the 3rd Precinct. His next partner, Chris Ruiz, was killed in an ambush—an event that deeply affected him. Following a wave of resignations and retirements during OCP’s takeover of the Detroit Police Department, James was rapidly promoted to Lieutenant. With the formation of C.R.I.S.I.S., he was placed in command as a team leader—despite the personal losses and unresolved trauma he carries. |
